Crystal Fighters - Follow

 

      Narrative - From watching this video in class we discussed it, and came to the conclusion that the narrative was both abstract and followed a storyline. I found this interesting as typically the majority of music videos either follow one specific narrative whether it be abstract or has a story. In the video above it is clear that the storyline is of the women sitting at the café about to 'follow' the scarecrow like figure that has appeared, this is an interpretation of the lyrics giving the audience video a clear meaning of the video and narrative to follow. The abstract codes that are identified are the introduction of various other characters that have no value or meaning to the storyline of the women following the scarecrow like figure they're just used for entertainment purposes within the video to keep the audience attracted. The genre of this video alternative rock/electronic.

However I found with this video the editing was skilled and professional but was very repetitive and soon became boring to watch as there was no climax to the narrative of the video.

 

 

5 Seconds of Summer - Amnesia

 

      Narrative - This video follows a distinct storyline narrative of a typical love-story, of flashback memories Amnesia is about remembering someone that has chosen someone else over him. Its about wishing that it was just a terrible nightmare and that his girlfriend was right next to him. This is an overview of what this video represents to the audience and how the lyrics are interpreted. The genre of this song and video is pop.

Rihanna - We found love

 

      Narrative - The narrative of this video follows a clear storyline, here is an overview of the interpretation of the lyrics; They've fallen in love with each other, but they are bad influences on one another. they found love but its hopeless.. 'in a hopeless place' the video shows, like any relationship its starts off well, then slowly starts to fall apart, like any other relationship. The beginning shows rihanna missing him, when she says 'its like you want the bad times back so you can have the good', however the end of the video shows her making a stand, moving on and getting back on track. The genre of this video is pop.
