Evaluation of Our Re-Make Music Video

Evaluation

In terms of success I think our final product was very successful. We chose to recreate Pharrell Williams 'Happy', throughout the content of the video the main focus was on 'Pharrel' as the main person however it also included various other clips of different peoplem, we managed to successfully gather the necessary characters to be involved in the video. Another successful point to the recreation of our video was the locations that we found and had a real resemblance to the actual locations used in the video. We made a conscious decision to film in as many real locations as possible to make the video as close to the original as achievable. However, in a certain part of the video it was necessary to use the green screen, getting the chance to use the green screen was also an advantage and useful as it allowed us to gain knowledge to take into next year when creating our own individual videos. Adding to this point we also had the chance to use different equipment provided in the green screen. An unsuccessful point to recreating the video I thought was trying to get the timing right, when it came to editing it was difficult to match the song to all the clips with the lip syncs. Overall, i think the final product was successfull even though we did encounter some minor set backs as mentioned above.

From carrying out this process, the task has been helpful as I have been able to test out the things that I will be doing next year. From this process I learnt how to work the camera and correctly set up the equipment, adding to this I also reviewed how to set up different types of shots and how to move and angle the camera accurately. Another development I have learnt from this transition task is how to use the editing software, even though the time using the editing software was limited I feel I have begun to slightly gain some knowledge and basic skills to take with me into my second year, however I do feel that I will need significant practise on these skills to gain the best result next year. From completing this task I feel more confident about going into A2 as I have a better understanding of the task in hand and the amount of work needed to achieve a high grade. Also from this process I have found that planning ahead of filming is key to success, for example a stroy board and shot list is an essentail part of planning as when it comes to filming I will know exactly what to do and have an idea of how the shots are going to pan out.

If I was to do the transition task again, there are ceratin aspects that I would of done differently, firstly I would of managed the timing differnetly and made more time for filming as some parts of our video where rushed making the final product look unprofessional. Another point that I would do differently is the reseacrhing and planning as I have mentioned above planning is a crucial element to the success to the remake of this music video, I would of cast all my actors and actresses in advance of filming as we found that when it came to asking people to be in the video most people let us down so we had improvise and include ourselves within the video.

Next year for my A2 project I will choose a song that has a clear narrative and that I am familair of, I will make sure to use a variety of codes and conventions that make up a good music video, for example using a variety of different shots to make the video interesting. I will also plan time better and get several shots of each clip to edit correctly and make the video look professional.

Despite the fact the task been enjoyable some elements of the task were challenging. First off choosing the video that we felt would be suitable and able re-create to a good standard was a problem, as getting available characters and loactions would be difficult. An example of this is at the beginning our original choice of song was going to be 'Fancy' by Iggy Azalea ft Charli xcx, however we found that this video was very demanding in terms of cast and performance therefore making it a struggle to recreate this video.

Overall from this transition task I have gained beneficial skills to take into my second year, from my recreation of Pharrel Williams 'Happy' my favourite part of the video is where we improvised the minion clip and used a balloon for the minion this showed innovative thinking and creativity. I believe we made a satisfactory recreation as we did not have a big cast like the original but still managed to use the cast we had and make it look good.
